Laser hair removal - 5 things you need to know when planning laser hair removal in this year

We have entered the spring - without noticing it. This is the time for people start to having more opportunities to show arms and legs, which means that the hair removal work will start again. Every week we have many clients visit Beauty Bee for laser hair removal treatment. Here I would like to make 5 suggestions, specially for those people planning to have laser hair removal in this year.

Shave before each treatment

In principle, laser hair removal need damage the stem cells in the hair follicles which will allow you achieve permanent hair removal result. but if the hairs grown out too long, the laser energy may be absorbed by the melanin of the surface hair and causing skin burn. Ideally, the laser energy should be fully applied to the hair follicles under the skin, rather than being dispersed by the epidermal hairs. This is why it is necessary to have hair under the skin rather than on the skin" before laser treatment. Shaving of excess hair with a razor is a good option. If you really like waxing and are going to try laser hair removal, give your hair at least a week to grow. It takes several months to complete full laser hair removal treatment. if your hair grow faster than other people, there is no problem with razor removal between each sessions.

Choose experienced Laser therapist

This might sound like a blah blah blah, but most therapist won't mention their work experience if you don't ask. Whether it is a doctor, a beautician or a laser therapist, the results of doing it every day are absolutely different from those performed once a month. Ask the beautician about her experience in the industry. It is very important to find an experienced beautician. Never have treatment with unqualified laser therapist especially for IPL hair removal. IPL equipment is relatively easier to operating, so some beautician start IPL treatment without been fully trained. This might lead to skin burns during treatment, the result might be compromised as well.

Choose suitable equipment for you

Everyone got different skin tone and hair type, and there are so many different types of Laser equipments on the market. Depends on what result/procedure you are looking for, choose correct equipment can make the treatment be more efficiency, which save your time and money. For example, condensation gel can reduce the risk to get skin burns, but if you don't like the feeling of cool gel spreaded on to your skin, Soprano Laser is the only type of Laser do not need applying gel during treatment. IPL can give you better treatment experience (less pain) but with require much more repeat treatments to achieve same result with other lasers. Alexandrite laser can work the best with light skin tone, dark skin tone should choose Nd & LP laser for best result. With my experience on laser hair removal, Soprano laser (diode) is more effective on all skin tone and give you painless feeling during the treatment.

Follow treatment plan

The interval between laser treatments should be minimum 4 weeks and cannot be longer than 6 weeks. Base on the laser type, most of people can see significant result after their 3rd treatment. However, 6 treatments are recommonded to achieve permanent hair reduction result. I saw so many people came back to me after half a year with only 2 or 3 treatments been done and told me the hair had grown back. Laser hair removal consists in repeatedly damaging the hair follicle, rendering it incapable of growing hair. Areas with thick hair even require special treatment.

Avoid high expectation

Most areas can remove 85%-90% of the hair, and different people have different results. But don't expect to have no hair at all. Even when advertised as "permanent hair removal," it's hair reduction rather than complete hair removal. That's why I normally told my customer the result will be "semi-permanent".
