When you see the topic you may think this is silly. But the fact is every week I see many cusotmers had active clearing facial in my salon. By talking to them I found out most of people didn't wash their face correctly. From our childhood, we were taught to wash our face every morning and evening. From the very beginning of cleaning with pure water, then change to washing with facial soap, and finally changed to using a variety of facial cleaners. Soon you get lost in the dizzying array of cleaners options. But you may ignoring the things that originally need attention, which is 'how to properly wash your face'. Maybe after reading what I said below, you will find out ' that's what washing face is all about!'
Why take face washing seriously?
Many girls buy expensive face cream or essence face masks every month, but they are very sloppy in washing their faces. This is the real reason why so many issues on their faces, such as blackheads, large pores, acne etc. These issues are closely realted to improper washing face.
What exactly does 'face washing' cleaned out?
Many people must be wondering why lots of people can aviod bath or shower for 1 or 2 days, but they must wash their face every day? And when they have bath, why doese the back position seem to have more dead skin rather than the rest parts of body? This is closely related to the sebaceous glands. Your scalp, back, and face (especially the T-zone area) have more sebaceous glands than any other parts of your body. So they are more prone to getting 'oil' than any other parts of your body. The purpose of washing your face or bathing is wash away sweat, metabolized dead skin cells, and superficial grease. Many of you see blackheads on the noses and wash them with facial cleanser over and over agian. But blackheads are semi-solidified oils, and they are no longer superficial 'diet' anymore. Generally washing your face cannot remove blackheads. And frequently washing may damage the stratum corneum which protecting your skin.
“Sometimes using too many products can irritate the skin. A couple times a week, when my skin isn't terribly overworked, the best thing is to rinse my face with warm water. Also, eat plenty of foods rich in vitamin A to help keep skin clear," says Erin Heatherton (American model).
Why are you getting oil type of skin?
You may ask 'what causes the oil type of skin?' As I said earlier, oil production is closly related to your sebaceous glands as they keep secreting sebum. Also the secretion of sebum is mainly related to male hormones. This is why boys' faces are more prone to 'oily and shine'. It also can be affected by temperature, age, and diet. However, normal secretion of sebum is not a bad thing for you. Actually it is the sebum that protects your face and keeps it moist from outside world. From some points of view, It can be said sebum is the best moisturizer for your face and body.
When the secretion of sebum is too strong, it accumulates in the pores and getting semi-solid. It will, together with the old waste dander, oxidizes and becomes a blackhead which is hard to be removed. That is the real problem you need to deal. If combined with abnormal keratinization of the hair follicles, the catheter will be blocked and become a perfect home for bacteria. It is the major risk of getting acne.
The common mistake.
Lather up the cleanser before apply on your face! This is very important! If it is not foamed first, the high concentration cleanser on the face will quickly wash off the lipids which should exist on your face. If you got dry type of skin, please reduce the amount of facial cleanser every time when you washing face. The amount should be enough as long as it can be foamed and washed all of the face. Be focus on the T-zone and dry areas.
What can I do about blackheads?
As I mentioned earlier, the blackheads which have formed cannot be washed away. But correctly washing face can prevent blackheads. Your face got blackheads because you didn't pay enough attention to wash the tip of your nose before. If you have a look how everyone washed their faces, most people always focus on washing their cheeks rather than other areas, and T-zone always been 'passed by'. Then after they found blackheads, they tried their best to wash nose areas for couple of days, after while they forgot about it and continued to 'passed by' the area. So a good tip I can give out is 'washing your nose first' and get this into your habit. But sill don't wash it vigorously.
Hong long does it take to wash your face?
I recommend only takes 20 seconds for the each area, and 10 seconds for dry areas (such as cheeks). The 20 second time is long enough to wash away the 'oil'. After 20 second even you continue to massage your skin, it won't get cleaner but may only damage your skin. Many people feel that washing the face is the same as washing the dishes. When they washing, they only think job done when they feel their skin unslippery and tight. But in face, this has been over cleaned.
What temperature of water is best for skin?
Some people like to wash their face with hot water, they think that can help to open up the pores and thoroughly wash off the dirt and oil inside. Some people also think that is it better to wash face with codl water, which can shrink pores and avoid extra chemical remnants inside. In fact, you don't need take it so complicated. Warm water will be perfect for washing face. You may ask how do you identify 'warm'. While, approximately 36℃ is the best temperature, which is about the same temperature as your own skin. So when you feel water that doesn't feel hot or cold, it should be the fine temperature.
